I arrived at the customer's house to find the system operating but with an error code indicating a low battery on the indoor sensor. I replaced the batteries and the error went away. I also checked the fault history and the most recent fault besides the low battery message was a loss of communication between the relay panel and the thermostat. I ran the system in test mode in each stage of heat. When I tried running the compressor heat it kept cycling on low pressure. Suction pressure would drop to 40 and the system would shut off. This was due to the extremely low temperatures, the heat pump could not run because of how cold it is. I tested the electric heat and it ran correctly. The system must have briefly lost communication signal and then reconnected on its own. At this time it is operating correctly.
Customer searching for HVAC contractor due to unit not cooling. Upon arrival the technician noted the customer had a Comfortmaker air conditioner, 3 tons, made in 1997 that utilizes R-22 refrigerant. The technician also noted water leakage from the furnace. Upon initial inspection, the interior coil was not draining properly. Condensate pump was working correctly. Verified pressures and superheat and sub cooling on air conditioner, everything in range. Further investigation revealed that condensate drain line had obstruction causing leakage. After clearing drain line with compressed carbon dioxide, assessed interior of evaporative coil as well. Significant dust and debris buildup from years of use has caused airflow restriction, making leaking worse. Vacuumed interior of evaporative coil to improve airflow, but a full coil cleaning would be necessary to solve the issue permanently. Upon cleaning coils and condensate line, temperature split became 18.4°, up from 13°, and leakage has cea
